Child Dedication Statement of Beliefs

Please read before submitting your application

Redemption Church encourages parents to publicly dedicate their children to the Lord. In dedicating their child the parents acknowledge the child as a gift from God, vow before Him and the congregation to set a godly example for the child, and ask the congregation to prayerfully support their family.

Laying a Foundation
A child dedication service is actually a parent commitment service. It is a promise by parents to offer their child (usually in infancy) to the Lord and to dedicate themselves to the rearing of the child for the glory of God.

This service is meant to give parents of young children an opportunity to recognize God's gift of a child to them and to declare their intent to raise their child in a Christian environment.

Parents will be challenged to biblically guide and educate their child and to lay a foundation of learning about God.

As parents, we cannot decide our child's salvation for them. Each person must make their own decision about their relationship with Christ. When a child becomes old enough to understand the concept of sin and their responsibility for that sin before God, they are then ready to make a decision about salvation.

Parents can, however, lay a foundation by their teaching and example that helps a child to be ready to make that decision when the time comes.

What Dedication is Not
This dedication is not a baptism. It is not a sacrament. It does not impart salvation to the child.

The Child Dedication service is viewed as a confirmation between the parents and the church to raise the child in a godly way until the child is old enough to make their decision and accept Christ as their personal Saviour.

What To Expect During A Child Dedication Service
On the weekend of your child’s dedication, you should arrive 20 minutes prior to the service and meet with the pastor in the room designated by Pastor Trevor. Please bring your baby or child into the service with you rather than taking him or her to the nursery.

As a part of the worship service, the pastor will invite all of the families participating to come to the front. You may want to invite the child’s grandparents or other significant family members who share your commitment to godly child-rearing to join you.

The pastor will introduce and pray for each family and child in turn. One of the parents of each family will be asked to select and read a Bible verse that commemorates the dedication. You will receive a Certificate of Dedication and a small gift as a reminder of this special day.

We strongly encourage you to write a letter to your child expressing why you are dedicating him or her, your commitment to God, and personal sentiments. The letter is meant to be opened when the child is twelve years old.
